What is Acupuncture,         and how does it work?

The ancient Chinese use the term Qi to describe energetic relationships. Qi, pronounced chēe, is depicted by it's Chinese character: 氣, a picture depicting the vapor created while cooking rice. Therefore, Qi is most often loosely translated as "energy". It is, however, the energetic relationships, or associations, that the term Qi is attempting to describe.

Acupuncture, and moxibustion, deals specifically with Jing Qi, or "Channel Qi". Channels, or what are most often translated as meridians, are energetic pathways throughout the body. Jing Qi traverses these channels and can be accessed at specific points. Acupuncture techniques are utilized to access this Jing Qi at these specific points. These techniques allow the practitioner to affect the organs and regions of the body these energetic pathways traverse.
